§ 01Wearable / Daily Data
Clinical fitness assessmentWearable Device Data Collection
Track recovery, activity, sleep, and aerobic fitness using data from consumer wearable devices.
Equipment
Client's wearable device (Garmin, Apple Watch, Fitbit, Whoop, OURA, etc.).
The protocol
- 01Ask the client to share their wearable data dashboard or read out the values.
- 02Record: Resting HR, HRV (if available), average daily steps (7-day), average sleep hours (7-day), sleep quality rating (1-10), wearable VO2max estimate.
- 03Use 7-day averages rather than single-day readings for more reliable data.
- 04Note the device brand and model for context (algorithms differ).
What to watch for
- Single-day readings can be misleading — always use 7-day averages where possible.
- Different devices use different algorithms — trends are more useful than absolute values.
- HRV values vary significantly between devices — compare within the same device only.
- Sleep quality is subjective — use it to supplement objective sleep data.
Normative scoring
Resting HR: 60-100 normal, 40-60 athletic. HRV: <20 ms low, 20-60 moderate, 60-100 good, >100 excellent. Steps: <5k sedentary, 7.5-10k active, >12k very active. Sleep: 7-9 hours recommended.
