§ 01Body Measurements
Clinical fitness assessmentThigh Circumference (Left & Right)
Track leg muscle development and detect bilateral asymmetry.
Equipment
Flexible tape measure.
The protocol
- 01Client stands with weight evenly distributed on both legs.
- 02Measure at the midpoint of the thigh, halfway between the inguinal fold (groin crease) and the proximal border of the patella (top of kneecap).
- 03Keep tape horizontal. Measure both legs.
- 04Record to nearest 0.1 cm.
What to watch for
- Client shifting weight to one leg.
- Inconsistent measurement point — use the midpoint consistently.
- Asymmetry >5% may warrant investigation.
How to read the result
No pass/fail standard — compare to the client's own history and between legs. A side-to-side gap above ~5% is worth investigating.
