Measure hip girth for waist-to-hip ratio calculation.
Equipment
Flexible tape measure.
The protocol
- 01Client stands with feet together.
- 02Locate the widest point of the buttocks (at the level of the greater trochanters).
- 03Wrap the tape horizontally at this point.
- 04Ensure the tape is snug but not compressing.
- 05Record two measurements and average them.
What to watch for
- Not measuring at the widest point.
- Tape angled or twisted.
- Measuring over bulky clothing or items in pockets.
Normative scoring
Used to calculate WHR. Healthy WHR: Men <0.90, Women <0.85. Higher values indicate central fat distribution and increased cardiovascular risk.
