§ 01Body Measurements
Clinical fitness assessmentChest Circumference
Track upper body muscle development and size changes over time.
Equipment
Flexible tape measure.
The protocol
- 01Client stands with arms slightly abducted.
- 02Measure at the level of the nipples (men) or fullest part of the bust (women).
- 03Take measurement at the end of a normal exhalation.
- 04Keep tape horizontal. Record to nearest 0.1 cm.
What to watch for
- Client puffing out their chest or holding a deep breath.
- Tape slipping up or down in the back.
How to read the result
There is no pass/fail standard — chest girth is about your client's own trajectory. Re-measure every 4–8 weeks at the same landmark; a consistent 1–2 cm change is real progress.
