Broad / Standing Long Jump

Measure horizontal explosive power — correlates with sprint speed and athletic ability.

Equipment

Flat non-slip surface, tape measure.

The protocol
  1. 01Mark a start line on the floor.
  2. 02Client stands with toes behind the line, feet shoulder-width apart.
  3. 03Swing arms and jump forward as far as possible, landing on both feet.
  4. 04Measure from the start line to the nearest heel at landing.
  5. 05If the client falls backward, the jump does not count.
  6. 06Allow 3 attempts. Record the best.
What to watch for
  • Stepping over the line before jumping.
  • Falling backward on landing (invalidates the attempt).
  • Landing on one foot instead of two.
Normative scoring

Men (18-30): >250 cm excellent, 210-250 cm good, 170-210 cm average. Women (18-30): >200 cm excellent, 170-200 cm good, 140-170 cm average.
