Clinical fitness assessmentBroad / Standing Long Jump
Measure horizontal explosive power — correlates with sprint speed and athletic ability.
Equipment
Flat non-slip surface, tape measure.
The protocol
- 01Mark a start line on the floor.
- 02Client stands with toes behind the line, feet shoulder-width apart.
- 03Swing arms and jump forward as far as possible, landing on both feet.
- 04Measure from the start line to the nearest heel at landing.
- 05If the client falls backward, the jump does not count.
- 06Allow 3 attempts. Record the best.
What to watch for
- Stepping over the line before jumping.
- Falling backward on landing (invalidates the attempt).
- Landing on one foot instead of two.
